About Us

This site was created by Carrie Dyck, a linguistics prof, retired from Memorial University of Newfoundland who has worked with Gayogo̲honǫnéha:ˀ speakers on various language projects since 1993. She hopes that Gayogo̲honǫnéha:ˀ speakers will find this site to be a useful resource.

The sound files used here were recorded in about 2014, by the late Alfred Keye, who gave his permission for these recordings to be used on the internet in this manner.

The information in this website was initially inspired by the description in:

Mithun, Marianne and Reg Henry. 1984. Watewayęstanih. A Cayuga teaching grammar. Brantford, Ontario: Woodland Indian Cultural Educational Centre.

The Mithun & Henry version was in the linguistic orthography, while this version is designed for users of the Henry orthography.
